European health and beauty product manufacturers can now safely use CBG (cannabigerol) in their cosmetics and beauty products lines with the approval of a major market regulator for EU trade – the European Commission.
The European Commission added the CBG last month (April 2021) as a safe ingredient for skincare treatment – to the database of cosmetic substances and ingredients database.
Factories and laboratories that produce hemp extractions (HEMP cannabis) and manufacturers from the CBD market have been showing for several years the benefits of using CBG in skin care products and cosmetics, including its anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antioxidant properties.
The classification change is made by the European Union’s General Manager for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs and will give a significant boost to growers, manufacturers and entrepreneurs in the field.
In February 2021 the EU added the CBD (cannabidiol) to the CosIng reservoir, and both synthetic CBD and hemp leaf are among the approved ingredients for cosmetics.
European Commission adds CBG as legal ingredient for cosmetics, skin care.
AND WHAT ABOUT CBG?
Cannabigerol (CBG) is the non-acidic form, i.e. neutral, of cannabigerolic acid (CBGA), which is a “master molecule” from which all other molecules in the cannabis plant are formed and found in minimal quantities. (Today it is possible to grow cannabis varieties rich in CBG).
The CBG has not been associated with high affinity with CB1 receptors, but specifically activates the CB2 receptors meaning cannabigerol is an agonist of CB2 receptors. This means that, like CBD cannabigraullain, it has a debilitating effect and therefore does not disrupt the daily routine.
In addition to this advantage the fact that the cannabigerol activates especially the CB2 receptors gives it a strong and highly effective anti-inflammatory trait (and as a result it is also a very effective analgesic). Cannabigerol works in other ways related to the endocannabinoid system, for example by inhibiting the re-absorption of the endocannabinoid anandemide and inhibiting GABA absorption in the brain (and cancer), giving it an antidepressant and soothing trait.
CBG products come to market at concentrations of 3% to 5% (10 ml) and this is the first time that consumers in any household can experience self-care with CBG.
